You are right, keyboard setup is a very personal thing! Keep you grubby hands off that!!....ummm.. never mind ;-) My keyboard setup: S: forward Z: back A: slide left D: slide right E: cycle primaries Q: cycle secondaries F: cycle countermeasures (D3) Space: afterburner Rt. Shift: Headlight capslck: Secondaries (until I did the button mod I mention below) I have a permanent rear view on screen in D2/D3, so no rear view button. For D1, the spacebar is the rear view, since there is no afterburner. Joystick: X and Y axis: turn right/left/up/down Twist: Roll button1: primaries button2 (on top): mines/countermesures button3 (top side): flares button4: secondaries (yep, that's right.. the button that most people can't even reach on the lower side..) I have a special modification that I do to let me use the lowest side button with my middle finger, so I can use *3* buttons at once + hat, instead of 2. go to http://www.unm.edu/~dgill/sidewinder/repair.html and follow the link for adding an extra button on how to do this. Some general guidelines about setting up the 3D Pro/Keyboard: 1. Don't use the hat for more that one movement axis. The way the hat works, if you are using it for sliding up/down/left/right, then by sliding in one direction vector you automatically exclude the possibility of moving along the other. Use the hat for either up/down OR right/left sliding, but not both. (I use it for up/down) 2. If you've never used a twist for rolling before, give yourself a LOT of time to get used to it. I recommend getting used to the rest of the joystick first, then after you are comfortable with it, disable auto leveling, set up the twist for rolling and just go crazy. Of course, it might be easier for you, since I went from total keyboard to sidewinder + keys... the complete freedom of movement was a big shock! 3. Do the button4 Mod I posted above. You will be glad you did. 4. Don't use the Sidewinder drivers. Much easier and problem free to set up you 3d pro as a Trustmaster FCS w/ pedals using the built-in windows drivers. In general, the best setup will allow you to do the following *comfortably* (no finger contortions or broken wrists..) and simultaneously: Move in ALL THREE direction vectors (i.e., forward, slide up and slide right) WHILE rolling, firing primaries, secondaries and afterburning. Dropping mines at the same time is a plus, but you wouldn't want to do it at the same time as you are 'burning (ouch!). Above all else, you MUST be able to tri-chord, or you will be toast :-) zapp ivory wrote: > > hi, > i posted a week or so ago.....got a sidewinder 3d off ebay.... > here's the ???? > what keyboard config do you guys use????? > ive looked around at the d3 sites and links with different responses. > i'm guessing its a personal thing...but to ya 3d users, what do you > use??? > thanx, > 122
