In multiplayer games, they are really fun to use on people:

when in a big room and you are 'spinning' w/ someone (sliding left for
example, while turning right), you can drop a few and it is usually
enough to throw your opponent off, since he usually follows the same
path as you.

another good way is in a hall way when you are being chased... drop
ONE , and then spin around quickly (using slide), and blast the hell
out of the guy chasing you. Be sure to shoot the bomb when he's close
enough; they are really strong.
