C&C Generals Online

Hi

Myself and a friend both play C&C Generals online from the same connection
(a 2MB adsl line in the UK) yet we seem to have problems with keeping a
connection at the same time.

Are there any firewall issues, ports I need to open or configuration changes
that could fix / improve this?

Also whilst I'm posting is there any way we can run a dedicated server for
LAN play as adding lots of computer players does slow the hosts computer
down...

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, Generals uses a peer-to-peer style network connection, not
client-server.

We've also played 3 players on our LAN versus others using Generals online
without problems. We're on a cable connection with 384kbps upstream. I
would guess that unless you have at least 256kpbs upstream on your DSL
connection, the reason you are having problems is that you don't have the
upstream bandwidth for more than one player. (As far as I know, the guys
who sets up the network didn't have to do anything special with the ports on
his router).

I think Generals wasn't designed with being able to connect 2 computers via a
shared connection to other people on Generals Online. There's probably an
article in the EA support database about this. Try http://techsupport.ea.com/
and click on "technical support"

We've played 2 people on the same connection before without problems. We
were on a Cable connection with 384kbps upstream. It may be that your
upstream doesn't have the bandwidth for more than one player. As far as I
know, they guy who set up the network didn't do anything special with the
router to get it to work.

As far as I know, Generals uses a peer-to-peer connection, not a
client-server one, so there is no such thing as a dedicated server.
