I watched both GDI endings. Sweet stuff. The Ion cannon ending rules. Anyways, I heard that there is also an alternate NOD ending that depends upon collecting nuclear parts. Any info, guys?

In article <vohit7a14ajq08@corp.supernews.com>, but only after serious contemplation, Mr. Brian Allen <blah@blah.com> put finger to keyboard and produced the following; >I watched both GDI endings. Originally, you were only able to use a nuclear missile in the final mission if you had collected all the nuclear components. This was "fixed" in one of the patches. IIRC there is no alternative NOD ending - but I'd be happy to be proved wrong. ;-} -- Cheers, Chas. "Reality leaves a lot to the imagination".

(as Doug so correctly and intelligently noted, this was fixed with a patch in the DOS version, and the Win95 version (aka Gold) didnt require the collection at all. What i don't know is, under the oldest DOS, before the patch, what was the ending video if you didnt get the crates, since you couldn't pick the city to nuke? or maybe it didnt matter, you still got the same ending video? Here is a thought! (rare as they are) Doug, get a copy of the old pre-patched DOS and dont get the crates and see what happens! BTW, since there are 4 cities to chose, i wonder if it is worth saving the game at the end, and going back 3 times and picking each city in their turn? just another odd thought -- Fight Win Prevail But Never Cheat

I have still only ever played C&C under DOS, I have done all the alertative endings, played all the final missions using alternative tactics and I think I've wrung every last drop out of C&C. Sadly. As the hardware and software have left C&C high and dry, I doubt I'll be revisiting it unless it is reissued updated in the same way Elite was. Neil A

You just have to spend a few minutes toying with compatability. It's one of the easier older games to get working. Try getting one of the old Lucasarts DOS games to work on XP. Torture! Anyways, I just can't seem to get Covert Operations to install. It wants to install from a DOS box for some unknown reason. Ah well.

How about just copying some of the files (such as *.mix) on the Covert Ops disk to your C&C folder? That's what the install program does anyway, isn't it?

I didn't figure it could possibly be that easy! :-) Speaking of the older games, I just stumbled onto the program ScummVM. It makes the old Lucasarts and Sierra adventure games playable on XP. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that it had support for Beneath a Steel Sky. That game was virtually unplayable even under Windows 95! What a game. It's great to see support for these older games. I usually have more fun with them than with the newer games!
