Surely tank rushes occur in many multipolayer games because many of
the multiplayer maps have large quantities of gemstones, so you just
build lots of refineries and you can build anything very quickly. The
difference with C&C is that it took for ever to get enough money to
build up large quantities of armour, and while you were doing this, if
this was your chosen tactic your opponent would take advantage of your
neglect of defence and sneak in engineers, or use some other tactic,
ie harvey bash. Why not use maps with no gemstones, and less ore to
play a more challenging tactical game.
