Anyway, the point is, tank rushes can be stopped, and > when people start to learn how, tank rushing isn't going to become very > popular anymore. > I'm not saying I can stop the tank rush. I probably can't, but lots of > people can, so it's not a problem. i think the reason people are objecting to your claims is that you sound very pompous (i don't mean that as a flame). you're basically invalidating all the hard core gamers out there who have faced and used the tank rush -- and blithely saying of course it can be countered! why do you think so? and why do you feel that, with your lack of experience, that you know better than those who have been at the top of the ladders? you place too much faith that the game was designed perfectly fairly, but most experienced gamers will tell you in a second that the teams and the units are NOT properly balanced. this is NOT just an issue of strategy. this is saying that pumping out tanks is overwhelmingly superior from cost/power/speed/etc standpoints that you suffer a severe disadvantage by trying any strategy that does not involve massive tank production. i.e. the money and time you sink into a tech center or an airfield means you come up a few tanks short in the battle for your camp. and every tank you're short is one more enemy tank ravaging your structures much faster than you can build them. as for "lots of people" stopping tank rushes, that's simply not true against a proper rush. you seem to think that RA strategies are still in flux and will change with each new "popular" fad. but in reality, RA multiplayer gaming in such a large, competitive environment has pretty much reached equilibrium. this is like financial markets re-pricing a security almost instantly after a public news announcement -- with enough excellent competition, the winning strategies become dominant rather quickly. all this being said, you can still get plenty of non-tank-rush fun out of RA. it's just in the hyper-competitive environment of ladders that the most efficient means of victory dominates. when i play with close friends, we always try different things for fun ... --steve
