I have one of these in my loft. While I did use the earlier D1 (or at least an earlier 6800 dev kit at Uni), this kit came to me much later - long after the 6800 had (essentially) slipped into uP history. The D2 kit I have consists of two boards, essentially a processor board and a board with a simple keyboard and 7 segment display. They seem to have been 'self assembled', I assume by the person I 'inherited' them from. Looking on the Internet, I've seen some other D2 kits but they are in 'brief cases'. Does anyone know if the brief case was standard or if others have simply added one for protection. -- Suspect someone is claiming a benefit under false pretences? Incapacity Benefit or Personal Independence Payment when they don't need it? They are depriving those in real need! https://www.gov.uk/report-benefit-fraud

They were single board computers just like the Mos Technology KIM-1 and I have an Intel board with an 8085 (which I got about 30 years ago, long after it was a big thing). THey were a chance to sample the CPU, and of course hobbyists made them "real" computers. The brief case sounds familiar, so I suspect someone did do this, it makes it convenient and if you wanted to move it around you needed some sort of casing. And likely someone wrote about it, so maybe others did the same thing. Michael

Poor old National, they never did crack the uP market ;-) I worked with someone who was convinced the Transputer was going to 'take over the world' (so to speak), previously he'd said the same of the 8051 (yes, the 8051). Oddly, neither prediction came to pass ;-)
