some secularist use B.C.E for Before Common Era.)
I think we can all agree that Christ was not born in A.D. 1 or
1 B.C. There are various estimates but most likely, he was born
around 5 or 6 B.C. (though I have seen good arguments for other
dates as well.) (Oh, btw, the correct form is "A.D. year" and
   "year B.C." )

But, now that I have put in my two cents, let's drop the
   century thing. It gets boring.

Actually it's Anno Domini, and means "in the year of the Lord."

Ammnio Dommini means "In the year of our Lord." it does not

Actually, this probably means `in the birth fluid of the Lord'...

hey..
They just talked about this end of the decade thing on Letterman.
They say that the decade doesn't end until the end of 1990. So there.
Finally an authoratative answer. (too bad he's wrong)

I don't get it -- how does giving the correct answer (the decade doesn't end
until the end of 1990) make him wrong?

No, in fact he is quite correct. The first year A.D. was year one,
so the first decade ran from years one to ten inclusive ... as in
the last year in a decade is a year that ends in zero. Such as 1990.
We are still in the 199th decade and will be for about 362 days as I
write this.

Similarly, the century doesn't end when 1999 ends, either.
