Once long ago, in 1973 to be exact, some grad students at Illinois,
including my friend Scott Davidson, found an advertisement for a
crackpot book named, as far as I recall, Psychic Data Processing.
They couldn't resist getting a copy, but none of them wanted it
addressed to themselves. They ended up ordering it in the name of
one Peter P. Levin, at his office address in the U of Illinois
Digital Computer Laboratory. The office address given was the
room that held one of the PDP-11 computers.

So what other reasonable names for people are as homophonic with the
name of some computer as the pair <Peter P. Levin, PDP-11> ?

Well, on a similar note, I once had childish dreams of starting my own computer
company whihc did neat and amazing things and built neat and amazing computers
and whom everybody loved. Kind of like Sun in days long past...

Anyway, I had figured that, like most companies, the first computer would be
kind of a psuedo-flop but would have some good ideas(like the Lisa or the Sun
2 or the NeXT or whatever), and that I would call that machine the N-10.

And then we would figure out how to perfect it, and we would eventually come
out with the final product that the world would grow to know and love:

the N10e.

Think about my first name. Say the name of my dream machine and then say my
first name. Then say them bost quickly. Think HARD. Get it? :-)
