1] The dating of the western calendar begins with zero as the year A.D., which stands for Ammnio Dommini, or After God. Jesus Christ was born sometime around 35B.C. (Which doesn't mean 'Before Christ' but I have forgotten the latin words). The end of the 20th century will be the final second of December 31, 2000. The name of the century comes from the next hundred year mark, i.e. '20' in 20th century. The first day of the 21st century will be January 1, 2001, as the next hundred year mark is '21' from 2100. 2] For the person who noted that the calendar changed in Japan when the Emporer died, I'd like to know if it presented any problems with computer programs along the lines of what was discussed in the 'Day the World Ends' thread in this group. +--------------------------------------------------------------+ | Well, you're climbing to a job on the company ladder, | | Hope it dosen't take too long. . . | | Can't you see there'll come a day when it won't matter, | | Come a day when you'll be gone? | | I understand about indescision, | | and I don't care if I get behind! | | People livin' in competition, | | All I want | | is to have my piece of mind. | | -Boston | +--------------------------------------------------------------+
