I was never cut out for tech support. My objective in going on a service call was not to "follow procedures", it was to fix the damned machine. I do remember one time getting a call from a consulting firm which had a system installed nearby. They had seen my name on the Microsoft Partner list and asked if I was willing to go look at it. I did. I had been there five minutes when the consulting firm calls with Microsoft on the phone. The next 8 hours were Hell. I was trying to work the problem without telling the Microsoft guy to STFU and let me work. Finally found the problem, it was some minor configuration issue if I recall correctly that I could have found in ten minutes without Microsoft yammering in my ear.
