True story:
I was working with Starpoint Software in charming downtown Yreka,
California at the time. Customers could upgrade to the latest version
of the company's software by sending in their serialized master disk,
which we would reformat with the new upgrade.
One customer sent his master in a regular #10 envelope. In order
to fit in such an envelope, the customer cut in the disk in two.
We immediately sent out a brand new master disk -- naturally, we took
the liberty of first bisecting the disk. (We waited two days before
sending a whole disk with a nice note explaining why we wanted
customers to return the complete master).
