ok, i can't resist. at my last job, working with Data General computers, right after i started work, one morning howls of disbelief started to rise up from the cubicles. files were gone - en masse. it turns out that the 'then' system manager typed in a command line that would remove a bunch of list files, recursively starting at a directory: delete #:+.lis or something like that (Mike Meissner, if you're watching, my AOS/VS is almost gone, having been replaced by Ultrix). unfortunately, by inserting a space somewhere, he had started deleting EVERYTHING from the root directory on down. after about three minutes he started to wonder why the command was taking so long, so he interrupted it. one third of a 600 MB disk was gone, and there were no backups. so as not to flame this guy, he had been working a LOT of hours, and was really tired of being the system admin anyway. i did it myself for the next few years, until i found a suitable replacement... dlb [a really long signature follows: it's not my fault. hit 'n' now!] -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ David L.
