Thanks for the response!  .... Is there no way to do what I am trying to do?
:-(

It's frustrating that XSL won't let me emit a runtime determined number of
HTML <br /> tags. Is there another solution that I don't see? (I have
"control" of the DTD. Could I do something different there?)
