Float w bloku z clear:both

Witam
mam pytanie.

Otóż na końcu strony w stopce dałem clear: both , aby rodzic się rozciągał.
Co jednak gdy w stopce z clear: both mam 2 elementy, jeden z float: 
left, drugi z float: right
Czy w bloku z clear mogą być elementy z float ? nie anuluje to 
"własności" clear ? ani nie spowoduje innych zjawisk destrukcyjnych w 
przeglądarkach - pytam bo działa, ale nie wiem czy tak na dłuższą metę 
można ?
