Subject: DECWindows fonts questions
Greetings,
I have a VAXstation 3100 at work (poor old thing!) with DECWindows running
on a VAX box. I was trying to install Cyrillic fonts on it... I got the
fonts designed for Xwindows in bdf format and converted them to
decw$font, ran mkfontdir, added the directory to the fontpath, rehashed
the fonts. The applications (I'm particularly interested in doing this
for DECterm) can see the fonts I installed, but for some reason cannnot
load them. I even got an Xterm port for VMS and installed it. It's
having the same problem...
I was able to do this in Unix / Xwindows easily, and I thought that
DECWindows was supposed to be pretty close to X. What am I doing wrong?
I tried disguising my koi8 fonts as iso8859-1 in decw$font_alias.dat file,
annd taking the standard fonts directory away from the font path... It
sort of worked - the xserver had to choice :). Some Cyrillic characters
were still displayed incorrectly. Anyway, that was not a very elegant
solution.
Another question I had was this:
Is it possible to switch keyboard layouts without running xmodmap every
time? And/or to change the keyboard layout for a specific application
without affecting the other ones?
If you had the patience to read this far and have answers my questions,
comments, suggestions, please reply by e-mail -- I don't normally read
Usenet. Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sergei
