We, a school, want to run 35, Pentium
75 MHZ, 8 MB of RAM stations on Novell
3.12. The server is a Pentium 100 MHZ
with 32 MB of RAM and 4 netcards to
distribute the traffic. The system runs
on a 10 Base 2, bus topology. We also
want to run Windows 3.1 from the server,
not from each station. This is because
we want to keep the kids off the hard
drives. However, we are worried that the
system might slow down to a snail pace if
all the stations access Windows 3.1
applications at the same time. So, which
one of these three scenarios is the best
in terms of optimizing speed:

a. Increase the RAM of the server to
     64 MB;
b. increase the number of cards on the
     server, to further distribute traffic;
c. install Windows 3.1 on each station
     (very costly because we will have to
     buy a hard drive for each station).

Because of budget restraints, we can only
choose one of the above combinations. For
budget and security reasons we prefer (a)
or (b) or a combination of (a) and (b).
Scenario (c) we want to avoid as much as
possible.
