Wtyczka zasilania ATX 20 a 24pin

Reanimuję starego grata (procesor AMD X2 5000+) i mam problem z zasilaniem. Zasilacz ma wtyczkę 20-pinową i dodatkową 4-pinową oznaczoną P9, natomiast płyta ma gniazdo na 24-pin i to dodatkowe P9. Podłączyłem i działa (tj. uruchamia się BIOS i ekran początkowy), ale czy jeżeli działa, to tak może być? Szybki gógiel wskazuje, że standard 24-pinowy jest do nowszych procesorów, ale czy ten staroć można uważać za "nowszy"? :)
