Prawie każdy daemon tego używa. Reszta pisze to po swojemu:
int r=fork();
if(r==0)
{
   close(0);
   close(1);
   close(2);
   open("/dev/null/",O_RDONLY);
   open("/dev/null/",O_WRONLY);
   open("/dev/null/",O_WRONLY);
}
else if(r==-1)
	;//błąd
else
     _exit();
