What Is Bitstream Cyberbit? Cyberbit is Bitstream's international font. Based on one of our most popular and readable type designs (Zurich BT), it includes all the typographic characters for most of the world's major languages. Beginning in Q2 of 1996, Bitstream will distribute the roman weight free of charge. Its first release will be in TrueType format for Windows 95 and Windows NT. Future releases will provide support for other platforms, other font formats, and even more languages. Why Do We Need Cyberbit? People all over the world have their own language-specific versions of Windows (or other operating systems) that provide them with the font support they need to write, view, and print their own languages. Problems arise when someone wants to send you a document or to create a home page for you to view. The other person doesn't have access to all the characters she or he needs to make it readable for the rest of the world; and you don't have the characters you need to view her or his language. The solution: one font with the languages already in it! Enter Cyberbit. If authors create their documents using Cyberbit, and viewers all have it on their systems, everyone can view and print multilingual documents exactly as they were created. The "World Wide" Web will finally be worldwide! What Languages Does Cyberbit Support? The initial release of Cyberbit will include all the characters needed to support the major languages of North and South America; Eastern, Central, and Western Europe; Scandinavia; Russia; Greece; Turkey; Thailand; India; and Japan. Future releases of Cyberbit will add support for Chinese, Korean, and other languages. Cyberbit complies fully with Unicode 1.1, which means it supports Windows NT and all the code pages in Windows 95. In addition, Cyberbit contains full PANOSE support. Most importantly, its most popular text size has been "delta- hinted," which means Bitstream designers have fine tuned it for optimum screen quality and readability. Note that to view double-byte languages such as Kanji (Japanese), you need to use a double-byte enabled browser or application. Pricing and Availability Bitstream will distribute Cyberbit free--beginning in the second quarter of 1996. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Cyberbit Character Set Support ASCII, ANSI, Latin 1, Latin 2, Latin 5, Latin 6, European Latin, Extended Latin, General Punctuation, General Forms, Arrows, Mathematical Operators, Box Drawing, Superscripts and Subscripts, Currency, Letterlike Symbols, Number Forms, Blocks, Geometric Shapes, Cyrillic, Basic Greek, Basic Hebrew, Extended Hebrew, Miscellaneous Technical, Miscellaneous Symbols, Alphabetic Presentation Forms, Thai, Devanagari, Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji (double- byte Japanese).
