I'm looking for the assistance of the members of this newgroup. I have a client that is interested in Networking their office and I'm investigating the various options to try to help them make a desicion on the easiest and most effiecient method to put it all together. There are approximately 6 computers that would need to be networked together in this small office comprised of 386's and 486's. 1. IF you were ME... what network would you recommend? 2. Why 3. Would it run on their existing system or would hardware upgrades also be recommended. Thank you in advance for your responses (which can be posted here for all to see) or emailed to me at fishermn@kamloops.net. Thanks again. Glen.

The answer is not trivial. If they need for work (I mean serious one) they need Netware 4.11 aka IntraNetware. If they need fancy tool for gaming etc they need Windows (3.11 for this sort of hardware they have). If it is university they need Unix/Linux of any flavour they like. They are of course some other possibilities for rich people (people that have time to spend it on doing experiments in their own bussiness have to be rich..). This way or the other they will need a dedicated server (if they are not so rich to take a risk of data corruption). It could be (for Netware 3.12) simple 386SX/8MB. For NW 4.11 I would suggest 486/100/32M. For NT 486/100/32M would do as well but pentium 200 is suggested if you need something above file repository functions. End user stations could be the same as today (if you are not trying to put some windowz99 on those...). For Netware end user station could be anything form xt to multiprocesor pentium pro.... For windows this is not true but windos is as you understand a different story... As it comes to yor last question I would like to suggest you answering the simple question that will be needed to answer your question in full. The question is - what software they use/would like to use. yours W.D.
