migracja i typ boolean

Proszę o pomoc w takim temacie:
jest pole tabeli (mysql) określone w taki sposób 
(oczywiście są też inne pola):

t.boolean :is_experiment, :default => true

jeśli jest true rekord w migracji zostaje 
stworzony, jeśli dam false - nie ma rekordu
Identyczna sytuacja jest jeśli dam "jawnie" przy 
tworzeniu rekordu do zrozumienia, że ma być tam 
false. Nie pomagają też 1 i 0 ani żadne mniej lub 
bardziej durne pomysły.
Co robić?
