django - (de)serializacja xml

Mam problem, ponieważ próbuje django (1.2.1) zmusić do odczytania danych
z xmla i wyplucia jsona. Próbuje użyć do tego serializers z django.core
ale gdy daje
serializers.serialize('json', serializers.deserialize('xml', data))
to nic nie dostaje []. Co w takim razie robię źle?
