 Right you can do cookie via javascript, but
 be aware that cookie are in NetScape only.
 The source code for that you can find at 
 http://www.softimage.com/ I remember that
 they made a cookie via javascript, and it was running
 correctly.

If -you- want to know about vistors statistics you -have to- use server
side solution. Client side technology like cookies may only be
functional for the viewers of your page. They may see how many times
they have visited your page, but you wouldn't know about it from your
point of view without server side scripts or logs.
