http://www.ps.uni-sb.de/alice/wiki/AliceFaq
Punkt 3.
How compatible is Alice with SML?
Quite. See http://www.ps.uni-sb.de/alice/manual/incompatibilities.html
for the list of deviations from the standard. Most SML code not using
signature include or non-trivial sharing constraints should work out-
of-the-box.
The main obstacle, though, is the way separate compilation works, which
tends to be different on every SML system (because it is not defined by
the standard). In Alice you need to put import announcements into your
code. We are currently looking for nice ways to make this approach less
incompatible with other systems.

Składnia to trochę kwestia przyzwyczajenia.
"> Will OZ be abandoned some day?
No. (Well, all languages will be abandoned some day...)
Oz has an active user community and is used in a lot of (academic as
well as commercial) projects. Alice has some way to go to reach a
comparable level of maturity, and there will always be applications
where it cannot replace Oz. Consequently, there are certainly no plans
in the Mozart Consortium to drop Oz at any forseeable point in time."

Both will be well-supported for a long time to come.
As for which one is "better", that certainly depends on the application
domain as well as on personal preference. For example, if you do
hard-core logic programming, require deep guards for your CP problems,
or rely on powerful distribution facilities, then Oz is for you. If you
are doing "mostly functional" concurrent programming with constraints,
or regard the merits of strong typing, or are interested in a language
that is "leaner and cleaner", then Alice seems preferable.
But you know that you can always mix the two and decide on a
per-component basis, although I wouldn't recommend that in general.

to projekt europejski (Niemcy-Szwecja-Belgia). Na grupach tych
udzielają odpowiedzi także twórcy Alice oraz OZ.
