Jak napisać coś lepszego niż getline( cin, table )?

Chcę pytać użytkownika w pętli o komendę, aż napisze "exit".
Mogę użyć getline( cin, table ) które nie ma ograniczenia co do 
wielkości bufora.
Jednak chciałbym aby była historia. Gdy naciskam w Linuxie w terminalu 
strzałkę do góry pojawia mi się ^[[A a tu chciałbym wpisywać historię.
Poza tym jak nacisnę po pierwszym parametrze Tab, aby podpowiadał mi 
domyślne parametry. To ma działać w terminalu w trybie tekstowym.
