Ja już używam - na przykład do takich konstrukcji:

for (std::vector<std::string >::const_iterator iter = str.begin(); iter !=  
str.end(); iter++)
// (pisałem z pamięci, mogą być błędy)

vs

for (auto iter = str.begin(); iter != str.end(); iter++)
