mysql: klient przestał mi się łączyć

Napisałem pierwszą aplikację w PHP5+MySQL. Wszystko mi działało. Od dzisiaj mam błąd łączenia z bazą danych: Message: mysqli::real_connect(): (HY000/1698): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'. Spróbowałem też połączyć się tak: "mysql -u root -p -h localhost" i mam "Access denied for user root@localhost'. Gdy zrobię "sudo mysql -u root -p -h localhost" jest OK. Proszę o pomoc.
