A while back there was some discussion about joystick 'drift' on some systems. Well, I'm a sufferer of such ignomy. Lucasfilm and Microprose do 'lose' their place and have to be re-set regularly. As one can imagine, this takes the edge off a bit during ariel combat. Machine:Soyo 386dx/25, Kraft Thunderstick and Kraft smartcard with approipriate drivers, DOS 5.0, drifts on various clock speed settings on the smart card. Problem persists even with a standard multi-io card with joystick port. Offening games are Tank Platoon Cmdr, SWOtL, Their Finest Hour, F19 Stealth, Helicopter Gunship; oddly enough, the 'stick seems to pass the manufacturer's diagnopstics. Drifts on both turbo 25Mhz and 20Mhz. I forgot the BIOS date/ver but think its AMI, probably circa '90. Sure would be nice to get back into SWOtL. One way to minimize drift is to let the machine warm up a bit before trying to calibrate the stick. This has helped me considerably. -- Jim Knutson knu...@mcc.com cs.utexas.edu!milano!knutson Wk: (512) 338-3362

I had mine for about a year first with Their Finest Hour and then SWOTL. I noticed two things about the Thunderstick. One was the vertical and horizontal adjusters can be hit slightly during flight and that will cause you to re-calibrate. Second is the joystick started to loosen up which had the same effect. I replaced the Thunderstick with a Gravis (sp?) joystick (still using the Kraft card) and I haven't had a problem since. Jim Feeney

I had a Thunderstick on my 486 for a while. Obviously you're aware of the X & Y trim slidders; however, I found that some games required that they be centered while others required X all to the left and Y all up. The problem with centering the trimmers is that if they're the slightest bit off, the drift starts. I'm now having problems with my Bondwell Intruder flight yoke in Chuck Yeager's Air Combat. Even with the trims all to one side, I still get right attitude drift as if turning about 5 degrees to the right. Red Baron and F117A work fine. Can't figure this one out.
