I am looking for the best version of Maniac Mansion. I have heard many conflicting stories. 1. Both that the version that comes with day of the tentacle is the best VGA version and also that it is the not as good EGA version 2. That there is and isn't a VGA version. 3. That the "enhanced version" is: a:the same as the original except for gamplay modifications and backround changes. b:the same as the original except for graphic changes. Which of these stories is true? I have the Day Of The Tentacle version. Is this the best? It appears to be EGA. -- Spliff Monkey Change EAT.SPAM to Optimusprime in my address.ICQ#: 12389391 Texas Chainsaw Massacre Home Page: http://zap.to/massacre

There are 2 MM versions.
the 1st is cga.
the 2nd that cames with DOTT is the same as the orignal one with the
following modifications:
New graphics engine - new version is EGA 16 colors and graphics are a
little better
Some modifications in the core to avoid problems with new machines.
No more password need in the iron door on second floor (not sure in
final DOTT version)
that is.
PS: The same is valid for Zac Mac.

The one in Classic Lucasarts Adventures has better graphics. http://mansion.mixnmojo.com/english/versions.htm shows four versions. Ok, it's been a long time, but IIRC, there were two versions of MM in DOTT. DOTT on disks had the old version (C64/PC), the CD of DOTT however contained the enhanced version. I am absolutely sure, BTW, that I played the enhanced version on my ATARI ST. So, you could try to find an emulator for it and play it there. I got both versions of MM this Christmas, in Classic Lucasarts Adventures and in DOTT. The link I gave says that the disk DOTT does not contain MM at all, but I cannot confirm this. -- reply to d o n a l d t (at)ec s . dea lt. cha with these letter removed: ^ ^ ^ ^ (fixed width font required)

Wasn't there an early version of MM within the game of DOTT ? I think in one of the rooms you go in in DOTT there was a TV or monitor on which you could play MM.

Yeah -- it's the room of the stamp collecting guy. Forgot his name. But the CGA was AFAIK only in the english DOTT... The German,
French an spanish Versions contains the EGA-Version.
But take a look at http://jane-ich-liebe-dich.de/files/mm_hex.jpg -
I still can't imagine they really put it in the code ;-)
It's taken from the maniac english PC-Maniac which was an my 5.25"-
Disk. Was there also a censored version published or am I really
the first one who put the exe in a hex-edit?
Greetings from Germany,
Thomas

I actually prefer the pixelated older version better :)

Did it contain something the newer version omitted?
