I am looking for some software which will let me set up directories on my harddrive as drive letters and will fool my games into thinking that the drive is the CD Rom. I have software which sets up a directoy as a drive letter but it won't fool the games. My 4 and 5 year old kids misplace game disks or scratch them up and always need help getting the games going. With the low price of drive space I'd like to just install and run from the drive, but so many games require the CD rom and will only run from it.

The games may not be fooled as they use *wierd* bits of the disk surface to make sure you've got the disk (ie not pirate copies), and are similarly an absolute nightmare to back-up onto CD-R. Some back-up software (eg Nero) can back these disks up OK by doing a complete binary copy of the disk, so maybe this is what you need - rather than a file-by-file copy. Or maybe buy a burner, and back your games up with some *advanced* burning software like Nero (There is a lot of lousy burnware out there that only does a file-by-file copy whilst claiming to do a binary copy), and burn copies for the kids to use (and kill!) and then re-burn if they do kill one!! As a legal licensee, this is probably OK under your license - just don't sell the copies!!! hth -L John Doe <Jd...@buck.com> wrote in message news:_ZbG4.268$cD4.23003@news.flash.net... > I am looking for some software which will let me set up directories on my > harddrive as drive letters and will fool my games into thinking that the > drive is the CD Rom.
