Electronic Arts Games + CD-RW = Ripped Off

A warning to CD-RW owners:

Just got off the phone with EA tech support, who told me that my CD-RW drive
(Yamaha 4416) and most other CD-RW drives are incompatible with their copy
protection scheme. This means that The Sims, and Need for Speed: High Stakes
will not work on my computer.

This goes for the entire EA product line, and the products they distribute,
like Maxis.

There's no indication on the packaging that this is the case, and their web
site also says nothing about this.

To get a refund, I need to...

... make a xerox copy of my receipts
... send them to EA along with the game itself
... wait for them to return a sealed copy of the game to me
... return this new box to the retailer and get them to return my money

For the forseeable future I'll be unable to purchase or play any EA games on
my computer.
This is too bad, since EA is one of the major distributors of PC games and
maker of some of
my favorities.

Grumpily yours,
JoblessJunkie

If they do that they will lose a great deal of thier market, so it's thier
loss, buy your games from Game or Gameplay.com

I've noticed that as well.
I also have the Yamaha 4416, but I also have a Creative 32X. NFS: HS
did not work without a third party patch. It leaves me no choice but
to get pirated versions that WORK.

I've been disappointed by EA lately. Sierra is becoming the company I
like best now.

Sierra's latest games also don't work on many CD-RW drives

The solution is easy.
Go to www.gamecopyworld.com and download the patch
that removes the copy protection.

this is why most people have either another cd drive or like me a dvd: go out
and get one 32x are really cheap.
