Disclaimer: This is posted to illustrate the insecurity of the VBOX system and to make them aware of this security hole. It is also posted to illustrate the fact that their delivery system is actually user HOSTILE and makes it damn near impossible to reinstall a game YOU OWN if your hard drive goes out. The author does not condone the use of this technique, nor will he/she be held responsible for any misuse of the information provided. 1. Purchase one copy of Arcomage from the website. This is the only one you'll need. 2. Go through the whole download process. 3. Once you get to the point that you have an 'Arcomage.exe' with the VBOX icon, run it and let the download process begin. 4. Once the download is complete, another dialog pops up, titled 'Thank you for Your Purchase of Arcomage'. It may also mention something about verifying your license or installing a license. At this point, go to your Windows directory and look for a directory called VBOX. 5. Copy the entire VBox directory to some other location for safe keeping (desktop works great!), and make a copy of the file arcomage.exe found in C:\WINDOWS\Vbox\Installers\Release_Arcomage_2.5.2_en-us (this is not the one that you initially ran to initiate the long download which is 436KB, but is the actual 8MB setup file). Copy it somewhere else, like your desktop, making sure to not overwrite the original arcomage.exe that you first downloaded (which is 436KB)... just rename it to something like Arcomage.real.install.exe or something. 6. Once you've done this, most of the hard work is over. Go ahead and run the 8MB setup file called Arcomage.exe... you will get a warning in a textbox stating that you only have 2 tries before your license is wiped off the hard drive, etc... just click Continue and proceed with the install. 7. Once this process is finished, you will now be able to play Arcomage on the first machine. 8. On any OTHER computer that you wish to run Arcomage on, first copy the Arcomage.exe (8MB version) from the original computer to the new computer. Run the setup and let it finish. Run the game and note that you get some notice that the Trial version has expired. Exit the game. 9. Now copy the entire VBox folder over to the target machine into the Windows directory (so you wind up with a new c:\windows\vbox directory on the target machine). 10. Double click the Arcomage shortcut that was created by the setup in step #7. You should NOT get the stupid 'Trial has expired' error, and now it will run on both machines! has expired' error now, and now it will run on both machines! My plan is to absolutely refuse to buy Arcomage until buying it gives me an installer I can run as often as I want. I reload Windows occasionally, and I might even want to move from my laptop to my desktop, or back. -s -- Copyright 2000, All rights reserved. I'm not going to condone the rediculous hassles of this brain-dead copy protection scheme. -- Knight37 "We've taken care of everything The words you hear the songs you sing The pictures that give pleasure to your eyes It's one for all and all for one We work together common sons Never need to wonder how or why" -- Rush "2112"
