Howdy, I manage a cybercafe in Spokane, WA. I got Total Codex for Christmas and installed it on one of the machines. I uninstalled it later... Uninstalling the game completely removed EVERY entry under the add, remove programs box under control panel. So I basically lost the ability to remove any other programs. I tried installing something else and it added itself to the box, but everything else was still gone. This is specifically how I did it: There were TWO listings related to Myth. One said MYTH II, the other said TOTAL CODEX. I uninstalled the MYTH II listing first. The TOTAL CODEX listing remained and I removed it next. When uninstalling the that one it removed (the listings) for EVERYTHING (all programs) under the dialog box. The programs were still there, just their listings were gone. The ability to remove programs was gone. At this point I am thinking a couple things: 1. !@#&*!@ 2. ok, calm down, it probably is just some psycho fluke with this particular computer - and I proceed to reinstall windows (please don't tell me this is an extreme solution, it probably was, but I figured what the hell, I got time). THE PLOT THICKENS: So two weeks later I decide to do my annual re-install of windows on my home machine which also has a copy of myth II. I back up all my important files to my D: partition, etc. As I got to reformat my C: drive - I think - hey why not try uninstalling total codex on this machine, since I am reinstalling windows anyways. I uninstall in the way descibed above and guess what...THE SAME THING. Now, I know it is not specific to one machine since the one at work and mine at home are quite different. Sorry this is so long. But other people need to know. This is not an anti-Bungie post (I love their games, Halo looks like it is gonna rock), but I am a bit pissed at them about this and thought I should warn others. THIS IS NOT THE UNINSTALL BUG THAT CAUSED THE RECALL OF MYTH II ORIGINALLY. That one was different. But this one is pretty big too. Somebody daring please test what I am saying on a machine they don't care about messing up and reply to this post. If nobody replies or has the same problem then I guess it is just me. I have seen no other postings (I did a deja.com search) about this. I assume that it probably does not happen if you uninstall TOTAL CODEX first (I think it is the order I did it in which caused the problem, tho I could see lots of people doing it that way). Don't let this discourage you neccassarily from buying Total Codex as it is an awesome game. Just follow this thread and see what comes about. Thanks. And yes, I have emailed Bungie about it. You shouldn't have to patch it. Both games in the Total Codex are v1.3 I didn't see any other patch on Bungie's site. Did I miss something? >The game they give you is the un patched version of the game. If you >go to bungie web site you can get a patch to fix the problem. Sorry about that, I guess the games in the total codex are patched.
However, if you played the demo and you did not patch it, the bug in
the demo will cause a bug in total codex games that will give you
problems when uninstall. If you did not install the demo, then you
don't have to worry about anything.
Here is a note I copied from gamespot:
Editor's Note 12/31/98: The Myth II v1.0 demo contained a
bug in its uninstaller program. This problem affected
the demo as well as the full version of the game. As a result, we
removed the original demo from GameSpot. Bungie has now
released that a new version 1.1 of the demo in which the
uninstaller problem has been fixed.

I DID NOT HAVE THE DEMO INSTALLED AT ANY TIME! And it still wiped all my entries under add, remove programs. After talking with some other people I don't think I am going to purchase anything from Bungie anymore - there is absolutely NOTHING on their website about this, even tho they are probably aware. Have you seen any postings here (or anywhere else) that would indicate that you are _not_ the only person who's experienced this (with Total Codex and no previous demo?)

Hmm.. My experience with Bungie has been very good. I suspect that if there is no info on their webpage about it, then they may not be aware that some people are haveing that problem. I suggest contacting them. How many other companies have issued recalls on their CD's cause of a bug? (Granted, this one was pretty severe in my opinion, but still...) I haven't really ever had a problem with any of ther games, from Marathon2 (on a Mac) through Myth1 (haven't gotten Myth2 yet, but will probably pick up the "total codex" as its so stinkin' cheap). -- Jon ast...@wam.umd.edu http://www.wam.umd.edu/~asterix

No, the Total Codex versions of Myth and Myth 2 are the latest versions of the game. The only thing that is not included is the Mac-only patch for fixing Voodoo problems that was released recently. BTW, the Total Codex entry in the Add/Remove Programs control panel is apparently only placed there if you install the third-party maps from the Total Codex; I used it to install only Myth and Myth 2, and I don't see that entry in Add/Remove Programs. Just a little relevant factoid. -- Joel Baxter jba...@lemur.stanford.edu http://lemur.stanford.edu/~jbaxter/
