Joystick and wheel on one computer?!?!?!?

I (very) regulary switch between a wheel and a joystick. This means
plugging in and out devices and calibrating everything everytime. Now
I've found Quickjoy (a utility from CH) with let's you choose another
device once you plugged it in, but it doesn't remember the calibration
info on my computer. Now I thought about buying a USB joystick
(Sidewinder Pro), but I've read somewhere that the computer only
regocnizes the controller in the soundcard gameport. You have to unplug
that one to let the games 'see' the USB device. There is a switching box
from Trust (Multi Gamer Switch), but that only takes away the trouble of
plugging devices in and out: you still have to calibrate it again.

Now I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants two controllers on his
computer, but I've been looking everywhere without any results. On the
Windows 98 controller panel you can add and add controllers, but what
for? It only 'sees' the first!

Can anybody give me any advice how to get a good running system with two
controllers (and if possible, working together side by side for some
multiplayer games)? I'm amazed it's so hard to get this done...

I've also had this problem, but use Quickjoy to switch between a C-H
Flightstick Pro and my TSW wheel. For me, it does seem to remember my
calibration for each device, so no problems there. However, I was
thinking about getting a new USB stick (especially since my monitor has
a USB hub in it and a connector on the front), and was wondering how
this "game controller" would work in conjunction with still having the
game port. IMO, the way that game controllers are handled in general is
a major weak point of the Win98 support. It's better than it used to
be, but still has problems.

Yes, I have the same problem. All my game devices are digital USB and
never need calibrating. But, some games recognize both devices and
others will only recognize one (EAW). I think the best solution is to
go all digital USB with a hub and just plug/unplug the device(s) you
want to use at the time. USB is hot swappable so with a hub (easier
access) it's would just take a few seconds to switch between a gamepad
and a joystick or steering wheel. So long as all devices are digital
there would be no recalibration necessary.
