Help!! Can't get Quake 3 to load on my machine.

I'm having a problem getting Quake 3 to run on my machine. It comes up
with the ID splash screen, then there is a brief sound (like some theme
music is about to start) and then the screen stays black and the system
locks up. I've done searches involving this game and my video card
and have tried different drivers but it still fails. Any and all info is
appreciated. Thanks. My system is:

PII-300
Tyan Tsunami Motherboard
192MB RAM
Diamond Monster Fusion Video (PCI - 16 MB)
Soundblaster Live MP3
Windows 98 SE

My second pc got a S3 8 meg video card and it experiences the same exact
symptom you have discribed.  I fixed my by cranking the desktop from 800x600
to 640x480 and it works like a charm.

Other fixes is by deleting the q3config in your Quake3 Areana and restart
Quake3 again.

Have you tried running the GL Setup on the Quake III game?  That fixes a
LOT of problems with the game!!!!

Try putting in the Quake3 CD and running GL setup.
