I'm a Harpoon person, I suppose. I played it for the first
time for quite awhile, wanted to see how well it worked on
my 486-33. (Pretty well, 1sec=30min actually was 1sec=30min,
unlike on my 386sx-16.) Used to be into it alot more.
Afraid I'm not a MegaFortress person, although I've read
the book. Just doesn't seem like much fun, piloting a
bomber. Whoopie, NOT! Maybe it's just me.
Are you on the CZ mailing-list for Harpoon?
Dave

You betcha. I've been playing Harpoon for a year and a half now and still
enjoy it. It's one of the few games I've found that continues to be fun.
Most of the longevity probably stems from the user contributed scenarios
as well as the different battlesets. I've still not bought IOPG or whatever
the Med one is called. I hope to get them soon.
I read the Convergence Zone mailing list and also the Harpoon forum on GEnie
although the GEnie one has turned into a whine fest from the Amiga and
Mac types. One of my primary reasons for buying a 386 was Harpoon. I used to
have an Apple IIgs and when 360 said they'd not port Harpoon over to it I
sold out.
I've got Megafortress that I've borrowed from a co-worker and have a good time
with it as well. I keep getting shot down by migs though. The EW stuff just
doesn't seem to help all that much I guess.
I like 'em both. My biggest complaint against Harpoon is that it will not
run properly under vpix so I have to shut down my unix system for a few hours
so I can play. Since I feed news to five downstream sites that tends to be
a slight problem but until I get another 386 that's the way I have to do it.
Cheers!
