Non-military/war flight sims (Best?)

Now that everyone has worked through the military flight simulators,
I'd be interested in any comments people have on the more mundane
ones which involved civilian aircraft. I know of Microsoft Flight
Simulator and another called ATP by SubLogic. I have some questions
about these two, although I'd be interested in any others people think
are good.

So you know where I'm coming from, I'm interested in simulators that
let you fly a 747/737/Concorde, etc. from, say, JFK to London to
Amsterdam, with the proper waypoints, NDBs, etc. as part of a flight plan.

I have also noticed a couple of (I think) third-party products which
enable you to develop a flight plan, and some others which purport to
be, as it were, scenery editors into which you can put various beacons,
or airport details. I think it would be pretty difficult to do an
airport design even for a small airfield. Has anyone used these?

I've noticed there are scenery disks put out by SubLogic. Can Sublogic
scenery disks be used with ATP and/or MS FS? Who else makes them?
What scenery disks are available? I've seen several U.S. ones, and
one for Western Europe which covers London and Amsterdam. Any others?

I've seen an air-traffic control simulation called TraCon, which claims
to be able to interface in such a way that a second machine running
Microsoft Flight Simulator connected to the first with a serial cable
appears as an aircraft on the TraCon ATC screen, and that other aircraft
on the ATC screen will appear on the flight simulator screen. Has anyone
tried this? If you did and it worked, could you use scenery disks and have
the different beacon and field designators appear on the ATC screen?

Lot of questions there, but I hope some food for thought.
