I just bought Falcon 3.0 last week. It was version A out of the box, and that same night I upgraded it to version D. I would like to know how to distinguish enemy ground forces from friendly ground forces. I always seem to kill a few of the wrong people. :) Also, sometimes it's hard to tell when I've killed a ground target or not. Any ideas? -- Brian Weaver Internet: bwe...@quack.sac.ca.us Packet Radio: KD6CFA@N0ARY.#NOCAL.CA.USA.NA

Good Questions! My understanding is that ALL enemy ground units (not including bunkers) are BROWN while ALLIED units are GREEN or LT GRAY. I think this works for the aircraft a well, but if you are that close to an enemy plane....... Ground targets are very difficult to see being destroyed. You are usually flying low and fast. If things are not too hectic you can try briefly putting your plane on (A)uto and viewing the missile with the (Q) key. If you use mavericks or laser guided bombs you can usually see them hit as you fly over the target. Finally you can hit the VCR button and film your strikes and then play them back after the mission. This is usually the safest method. --Alan

Enemies are grey/brown (or vice-versa?, just check the reports screens). Here's a slight cheat which will help: When you are getting close, switch on your VCR then pause and go to replay. Use the independant view to look to the battlefield and check out placement. Think of it as a last minute SR71 flight (as someone else called it) or as communication with the ground forces directing your attack. You can also use the VCR to assess bomb/missile damage. Or use the missile view if you think you can afford it (probably not).

Enemy ground forces are always brown, but there are some "false targets"
i.e. little brown dots on the ground that are just little brown dots
no matter how close you get. UFFSO's (unidentified flight simulator objs)
You can get a preview of *all* forces, enemy and allied, ground and
air, by going into red flag/nellis command/report/* ('button path').
You will see a rotating picture of each weapon.
BTW-- There are also infantry troopers, and they march. Yes, they *march*!
Set up a red flag practice with some infantry on the ground (where else ;)
and land near them and carefully taxi up... their legs move at the knees,
and arms move at the elbows! How bad is that?

Geez, what a cheat!!!! You can also make good use of the '7' key, esp.
if you set up another flight to go 'wild weasel' for you. Use of the
aux views in falcon is one of the more important things to learn.

Well, there usually is time to get pointed away from the ground. The q
key is also helpful (almost a cheat) in id'ing air targets. Like if
you have 2 dots coming, it is nice to know that one is a Cub, and the
other one is a su27.
Speaking of ACMI (vcr), I wish: #you could zoom out farther, #it
made better use of the screen area, #the file requester didn't always
default to the canyon. Looks like a cheap add-on afterthought.
Chuck Yeager's FS has a much better recorder, imho.
Another area where falcon could be improved is in getting the bugs out
of the set-waypoints tool. What frustration! I often add flights, and
for example will be setting the third waypoint of the second flight,
and when I click thru 'action' when the choice "bomb" comes up, my
waypoint jumps to some other target way the heck away from where I
want. And I don't even want to bomb! I want the next choice. Another
thing it does is change flights while you *think* you are setting
the waypoints for one, all of a sudden you see that you're setting
them for another flight! Hate that! Earlier today I screwed up my
default flight so bad when I thought I was setting waypoints for another
flight... took forever to get it right. And you can't just abort and
restart, either! The changes get saved as you make them...
Maybe SH should fix some bugs before coming out with all these feature
adding patches. Setting waypoints is a pain!
Has anyone actually *won* a campaign?
