You aren't a Network Administrator, are you? I'm not the original poster, but I have been a system and network admin for about ten years now, and I can catagorically tell you that you don't have a clue. Crossposting sends ONE copy of a message from server to server. That one message has multiple groups listed in the Newsgroups: header. The news server software puts one copy on disk in the directory for one group, and then puts links in all of the other directories for all of the other groups, links that point back to the one copy on disk. Similarly, decent mail software consolidates multiple recipients as much as possible. If a message is sent to multiple recipients on the same system, only one copy of the message is generally sent. The receiving system then blows it out into multiple copies in multiple mailboxes. Obviously if the same message is sent to other users on other systems, a copy of the message has to be sent to each system. If the software on your system doesn't act intelligently, well, what can I say except change providers or get real software. -- | Greg Orman gr...@pomona.edu | | A man's best friends: a Harley, a Beretta and a Gund. |
