Raymond W. Rowe (rwr...@earthlink.net) wrote: : Mr. Svensson and others at IGN work long hours gathering information : about the industry and they report on the same day. In general, if : anything important has happened in the industry on a given day, it can : be found on an IGN site that night. All of this information is given to : the public for free. And all the end up doing is either creating controversy and people get upset and argue and stuff like that, and all the really important game news that I would think most people would want to see ends up on Game Fan Online. Imagine twists the information to borderline of credibility. Like how they take press releases, rewrite it as if they researched and dug for the news, and in the end, often screw up what the press release said. I remember when the PS price drop came up and they stated "All PlayStation games would be $49.95 MSRP", yet the reality was all games made by Sony would be $49.95. That was in a press release, which is where they got the info from. But because they rewrote a press release, unlike GFO which just posted the release like other sites do, they screwed it up. Or how about the time NGO reported the potential censorship about FF7, which up until that point, nobody was really worrying about. Then all of a sudden after this story, there is massive talk about censorship all over the place, web sites start putting up what NGO said, petitions started, and only a day or two later, PSX Power, their sister site, says that everyone should get a grip, how sony hasn't said anything yet on it, etc etc, when they are the ones who caused the hysteria. Or how about how NGO and PSX Power have ripped off Geisen, a Japanese online site, with major news, even copied for word for word, and didn't give them any credit. Heck they got caught too because Geisen, which really is a respectable site, made one tiny mistaken in their story, and yet that same mistaken appeared on PSX Power and NGO. Then there is the fact that Game Fan Online brings the info about the games and doesn't concentrate on the industry as much. Mega Man X4 pics, before everyone else, both GFO and I have Zelda pics up that Imagine still doesn't have, Front Mission Alternative pics, etc. They bring you the latest news from Japan, and often have pictures of stuff way before NGO or the rest of Imagine has them. Why? Because Imagine simply sucks when it comes to Japanese info. Too bad for them since a lot of the good info and games come from Japan. So if you sit here and think that Imagine is all good and so forth, you really need to look closer. I always thought to myself one of these days i should just take down all the big screw ups and write them down for posts like this to prove the stupid things they do. I'm not really talking about mistakes, I'm talking about abusing their press status, rewriting info, stealing info, making controversial news just to gain readers and so forth. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Marty Chinn *** 1997 E3 Plans & Info Coming Soon *** Video Source PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Saturn, Imports 973 Foxglove Dr. M-F: 9:30-6:00, Sa: 10:00-3:00 PST, Sun: Closed Sunnyvale, CA 94086 Ordering, and Preordering info at: <408> 720-8575 Voice E-Mail: vids...@netcom.com <408> 720-8576 FAX WWW : http://www.video-source.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
