Yes, that's very likely. I used an OS in 1979 called OS-9. I used 68K
kernal to run a multi user multi tasking computer in 256K of ram using a
6809 at 2mhz. True, it wasn't very graphical. However, nither were the
IBM PCs' when they came out.

Well, Cocane is very popular too. Just because its popular and there is
a lot of support (therapy) for it, does that it make it good for us?

While working with different systems in the 198[0-5] there were many that
were technicaly superior to the IBM pc, but it had something the others
didn't. The words IBM.

Mind you, the internet, and all of the development that happend there from
196x to 1993 was done mostly on non IBM and non Microsoft products. It
worked quiet well; until the unwashed masses appeard. Microsoft had
nearly zero influence over the internet prior to 1993. The internet is,
or rather was, a nice place. Lots of resources, lots of information, it
was jut hidden in places like ftp, archie, and gopher. It didn't have
pretty pictures, and icons to click on. Then one day, a product from CERN
came along, and changed all of that.

Now microsoft takes perfectly good RFCs produced by a community (of world
class research, and 'bake off'), and perverts them to it's own pleasure.
Thus making them either behave badly, or make them subtly incompatable
with the rest of the internet, but not for long. Massive amounts of
software crufting needs to go in to fix microsoft 'features'.
