Max Mansour <ma...@ziplink.net> > In your answer below, you forgot to mention the main reason. Most > software Microsoft produces is quite good, if not great. Not usually. In most cases it has more bugs - but tons and tons of features - making it complex to use. Its like adding a 747 dashboard to your car. Some people like it - people that understand UI realize that you would only be sacraficing needed visibility and ease of use, for features that no ones uses or needs. Example. MS Apps have a spelling checking that beeps and corrects on the fly - inside of word. Not too bad. On the Mac I can get one that works with every program I have (not just MS apps) and takes less memory. I prefer the universal dictionary... but even so, many users I know just wince when their machine beeps at them with the automatic spelling checkers, and many panic when it "autocorrects" something. And this is one of MS's more useful features. The average user can be trained in 1/10th the time on Claris works, and do 99% as much as they will EVER be able to do in MS-Office, and quicker. No it doesn't have all the features and functions - but neither does my car have a built in Bod=E9 - some features aren't needed, and when they are - they are needed in a better more focused package than MS delivers anyways. > Your logic (below) does not provide an answer as to why the #1 selling > word processor for MacOS is MS Word. Because it was first, and was the most pirated package of all times. Everyone got it, and everyone used it, and everyone trained themselves on it... and many (most) eventually legitimized it. It was also one of the first cross platform apps - which made data exchange very easy. But there are more contributing reasons, like FUD, marketing, etc... way way down on the list would be quality or features. And certainly on the strikes against its usability would be size and featuritis. -- David K. Every MacKiDo Warrior - The Power of the Macintosh Way! -- =A91997 DKE.
