But history also shows that the vast majority of people do have that
attitude, and that history is often changed by individuals.  If you
look at the history of science and technology, it's about a lot of
people refining the current body of thought, with a few people here
and there that break out and expand things to new vistas.  Both groups
need each other by the way, the brilliant theorist needs all the data
to work with, and the masses need the new theories to compile the data
for.  In other words, most people are the "that's the way things are"
kind of people, and only a few are in the "is that really the way
things are" camp.
