Well, there is a good example of what Micro$oft is actually good at.
There seem to be two Microsofts. One Microsoft produces really good
stuff...this is the Microsoft that brought us the Microsoft products that
I actually use: Applesoft ][ BASIC, and the Psion operating system. The
other Microsoft produces programs that sell lots of copies, saturate the
market, and make people miserable because while the programs work, they
often don't work well, are overloaded with useless features, and cause Bad
Things to happen. For instance (and to keep this relevant to
comp.sys.palmtops, where I am reading this thread), Microsoft wrote the
multitasking OS for my Psion, and they did a really nice job of it. I've
been using this computer since September and it hasn't crashed or hung on me
yet...even my Apple ][ isn't that stable (though it comes awfully close).
This is clearly a product of a Microsoft that knows how to write software.
So I purchased the Automap mapping program for the Psion, another
Microsoft product. This is the slowest-running Psion program I have ever
used, right down to the keyboard input routine; and it crashes if you dare
touch a key while waiting for the splash-screen to time out. It is a nice
program and it does neat things, but it looks like it was written by the
same team that wrote the latest version of Microsoft Word.

Now if we could just get a version of Windows that ran like some of the
Good Microsoft stuff, maybe people wouldn't be so quick to jump all over
Gates & Co....

Just my $0.02...
