Help! Alone in the Dark - worm!

	I recently purchased Alone in the Dark.  It's a great game, but I'm
stuck.  I'm in the underground passages; I've dodged the worm and shot the
furball.  It now appears that I have to get by the worm in order to get into a
lake.  If I try to run past the worm, he kills me;  if I try to go around the
back of him, he kills me.  How do I get by this montrosity?  Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
