ASYLUM for the IBM PC exists! I have a copy! I even solved it, sort of. (I later learned that a bug enabled me to miss out on a section of the game that is essential in other versions. Specifically, when the lights went off, I was able to walk all the way to the fuse box in the dark, eliminating the need for candles. Just out of curiosity, can anyone tell me how you were supposed to get the candles anyway?) What a claustrophobic game. I remember playing it in a kind of desperation, knowing that even if I didn't enjoy it much, my soul would not be completely free until I managed to escape. Ugh. Ugh. Gives me the shivers to think about it. Anyway, I upgraded and now it won't work on my new system. Anyone remember Deathmaze? I never did solve that one. (What is "Invert and Telephone" supposed to mean?) Even after I read the string space I didn't solve it. Is there an IBM version available? (God, I hope not. I might have a compulsion to finally finish the thing. These games have all the nerve- wracking dementia of Wizardry "HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN SOMETHING?" IV, but without the transcendent glory of the finale. Although I guess only the grandmaster ending of Wiz IV has that; the other endings are prisons of delusion. What I'm trying to say is that these games have a very constricting feel to them, whatever that means. Ah well. Give me Steve Meretzky any day. Even when he's trying to be depressing, his games somehow induce joy. -- Carl Muckenhoupt bme...@occs.cs.oberlin.edu GUNS NOT BOMBS CENSORSHIP = SEX
