The latest (5/13) issue of Baseball Weekly ran an article about the
newest baseball games out there, including the statistics-based, non-joystick
types, which provide (obviously) much better re-creation of seasons.
My personal favorite is Pursue The Pennant (and I've tried most all
of them). No joystick, just strategy. No graphics, either, but the interface
is excellent. A very good simulation, very accurate, with pretty much all
the options you could want as manager. The newest version will include
a programmable computer manager, too.
Games take 5-15 minutes, depending on how they go; I can play a
season (162 games) in a week of playing while watching hockey games on TV :)
I'd say under 10 min, average.
And it comes with complete player creation and stats packages, the
latter letting you show league leaders in a ton of categories, detailed
standings, and on and on...
