Not brave enough to pay for it yet. It looks interesting, especially the cultural improvements. Anyone install this sucker and give it a spin? -- Zag No one ever said on their deathbed, 'Gee, I wish I had spent more time alone with my computer.' ~Dan(i) Bunten

I did the same for Gods & Kings. I don't know if they would recommend it though, but they do play Civilization V a lot. It was available at 30% off ($21) from Green Man Gaming for a
while. I was tempted, but I'm still really dubious of all things Civ V.

I have no problem with Civilization V. Well, not with the gameplay. It
has some nice innovations that I feel really improve the game (in
particular, the addition of those minor countries that you can ally
with but don't expand their borders). Some of the other changes
(combat, in particular) aren't as welcome but don't ruin the game.
I do have a problem with paying $30 for an expansion pack, though.
I do have a problem, like many fans, /playing/ Civilization V though
(or any Civ game, for that matter). Left unchecked, it could destroy
my life ("It's /what/ time in the morning?!?!?"). Its why I purposely
limit my access to the game. So maybe it's for the best that the DLC
is so overpriced; it keeps me from buying it, reinstalling the game
and not getting any sleep for a month ;-)

True that. Someone has to front the money, by paying full price for the same game three times. Honestly, if I see some positive reviews, I'm willing to be an early adopter on this one. The culture overhaul looks pretty cool. I'd throw some money at it if I wasn't so leary of hype. -- Zag No one ever said on their deathbed, 'Gee, I wish I had spent more time alone with my computer.' ~Dan(i) Bunten

Heh. Been there and done that. I've logged more hours in Civ V than in
every other Steam game by a factor of 10 (possible 100). We're talking
orders of magnitude more time spent playing.
It's a very good game. Well worth the money I spent. And the backported
updates have streamlined the gameflow, even if you didn't buy the
expansion packs.

Concerned about price? Find some free strategy games (in the Civ style, such as C-evo and Freeciv) reviewed and partly analyzed on the Civilization Games Wiki - http://civilization.wikia.com - which incidentally now has an official partnership with Sid Meier's Firaxis. Concerned about staying up all night? Ignore the above note!!! (Or have some free fun anyway.) Robin - born 1940, still going strong
