Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance are available on Steam, as of September 28. I think Gas Powered Games might have been a little frustrated with Square Enix maybe not wanting to do more with Supreme Commander 2. I hope so, hopefully they can attract more players. It's the best real-time strategy there is. The fact that you can queue units and buildings without having to pay for them ahead of time is a major part of what makes it the best RTS. Real-time strategy is supposed to be a strategy game.

Or "arcade strategy". The ability to queue stuff without having to pay for it until it's ready to be produced makes a world of difference when playing against the AI or (if you are lucky enough to find a compatible partner) when playing on slow against another human being. In multiplayer pickup games against the masses, even Chris Taylor's RTSs go to the player who clicks the fastest. But at least the ability to queue stuff ahead of time without paying for it first eliminates the need to time every stinking building placement and unit production. Having to do so is just ridiculous. You have to wonder why other RTS don't include that fundamental feature. Well, obviously that is because they are made by people who don't know anything about strategy gaming. I wonder if it will be the same 100 years from now...

In 10 or maybe 20 years, a significant number of people will be playing real strategic RTS by voice activated scripting, like I do now. I would like the next available worker, the next idle worker, to build whatever I queue. Maybe limit the distance that a worker can see buildings in need of construction. That might be unpopular because it seems less realistic or whatever, but I would much rather be strategizing than wasting time and concentration searching for a worker.
